At mStarr, we believe in capturing charm and layering in personality. In perfectly imperfect elements. In designing slower. And above all, infusing character into your space with small but impactful details. mStarr was born out of a passion for and a need to create. At the core of who we are is a belief that small details and curated moments matter. That character and charm are rooted in those small details, and that they often make the biggest impact. This is a common thread through all of the work we do and the things we create. We love to work with a variety of people, like you, who share a love and appreciation for imperfection and character because we know these are the qualities that create timeless designs and give life to our homes. Timeless to us is a mix of old and new, past and present. Inspired by the past but able to evolve. It’s not a specific look or paint color but something different to everyone. Do you smile as you walk by that piece of art everyday? Can you picture your children cuddled underneath that blanket? In true creative fashion, our style is always evolving but one thing we always stay true to is an intentional, slower design. It is approachable and inviting. We create spaces that are meant to be lived in and used, where every detail is thoughtfully considered to suit your personal taste and the way you choose or need to live in your home. We love to help you explore and discover your favorite colors or one-of-a-kind pieces that will remind you of a time, place or person you love. Always collected, layered, and real, we mix old and new with quality pieces from a wide variety of makers - whether that be an incredible vintage shop, mainstream retail store, or an investment custom piece that transforms the space. We are cognizant of your budget should there be one, the style of your home, and the goals you have for what you want your home to be. Creatively finding design solutions that evoke a feeling of nostalgia and excites you about the possibilities is what inspires us and drives our work. As Seen In Select past + current content creation, social media and styling collaborations include Emily Starr Alfano / Founder + Creative Director Emily is the Starr behind mStarr. Her car eer has taken her on a journey through various industries including spo rts marketing, radio, and jewelry design (the original mStarr!) but the current mStarr was born following her 2011 wedding. With hard work, a little luck, and an opening in the New England market for a design-focused business, mStarr grew quickly, crafting dozens of weddings and events across the country. With growth came styling jobs and eventually an expansion and focus on interiors, something she had always been passionate about. She spent 7 years in her 1830's house (affectionately nicknamed #farmhousedialfano) making updates and growing an Instagram following. In 2021, she moved to a "newer" home built in 1898 where she's fully embracing its charm and taking sensible design risks. ​ Emily comes armed with experience from years spent in project management and marketing, bringing right-brain creative thinking, left-brain execution, and resourcefulness to the table. ​ Emily lives in the Boston area with her husband Bill, daughter Max, and pup Bruno. ​ @MSTARREVDESIGN ON INSTAGRAM

​ mStarr was born out of a passion for and a need to create. At the core of who we are is a belief that small details and curated moments matter. That character and charm are rooted in those small details, and that they often make the biggest impact. This is a common thread through all of the work we do and the things we create. Let us help you create an inspiring and inviting space you actually want to spend time in and share with others. No.01 Comprehensive Desig n Providing a complete experience, we intentionally transform your space with a bespoke design. Our designs are gradually brought to life, through a series of phases meant to learn about your everyday routines & interests and how best to achieve your visual and functional goals while managing the project from conceptualization and sourcing to ordering and execution. The early phases include inspiration and foundational elements, making way for intentional decor and curated details and how to layer them in, and finally implementation, styling, and putting the finishing touches on our project. ​ This service is available for in-person and remote projects, typically focusing on 2+ rooms up to a complete home and lasting somewhere between 6 and 24 months. While we understand the inclination to jump ahead, we firmly believe that you need to spend a little time getting used to your new space or digging deeper into your existing one. It’s an important time for us both to learn about your needs and wants. We work through layouts and overall flow, eventually crafting an easy-to-navigate design plan and resources. No.02 Virtua l Desig n Our virtual services are a great option for smaller projects, those who are not in the New England area, or anyone looking for less assistance. You’ll manage and execute while we provide clarity, direction, layouts, and a shoppable list of resources to purchase at your own pace. Virtual design services typically last 4-8 weeks and focus on 1 room up to a complete home (a longer timeframe may be needed for more than 2 or 3 rooms). No.03 Comprehensive Design C onsultation A step up from our consultation service, this is our version of Designer for the Day and includes a morning session and a later delivery (typically 1-2 days later) and review of a modified design plan with a shoppable list of resources to purchase at your own pace. No.04 Design Consu ltation Our consultations are available for both in-person and virtual projects, and last between 60 and 90 minutes. This is a great option for anyone who may be feeling stuck, is inspired to do something new but are unsure where to start (or finish), or just needs a sounding board. No less impactful, the consultation is meant to target whatever your list may be and to wrap things up in one session. You’ll receive follow-up notes and a recording of the session if applicable.
