mStarr design studio was founded by Emily Starr Alfano and is an interdisciplinary studio in the Boston area that provides bespoke interior decorating & content creation services, and handmade interior accessories. At mStarr, we believe in capturing charm and layering in personality. In perfectly imperfect elements . In designing slower. And above all, infusing character into your space with small but impactful details. We adore working with those who share a love and appreciation for imperfection & character because we believe these are the qualities that give life to our homes and create timeless, nostalgia-evoking designs. It is approachable and inviting. We design spaces that are meant to be lived in and used, where every detail is thoughtfully considered to suit your personal taste and the way you choose or need to live in your home. We love helping you explore and discover your favorite colors or find one-of-a-kind pieces that will remind you of a time, place or person you love. Always collected and layered, we mix old and new with quality pieces from a wide variety of makers - whether that be an incredible vintage shop, mainstream retail store, or an investment custom piece that transforms the space. As Seen In Select past + current content creation, social media and styling collaborations include Emily is the Starr behind mStarr. Her career has taken her on a journey through various industries including sports marketing, radio, and jewelry design (the original mStarr!) but the current mStarr was born following her 2011 wedding. With hard work, a little luck, and an opening in the New England market for a design-focused business, mStarr grew quickly, crafting dozens of weddings and events across the country. With growth came styling jobs and eventually an expansion and focus on interiors, something she had always been passionate about. She spent 7 years in her 1830's house (affectionately nicknamed #farmhousedialfano) making updates and growing an Instagram following. In 2021, she moved to a "newer" home built in 1898 where she's fully embracing its charm and taking sensible design risks. Always needing to keep her hands busy, Emily recently expanded mStarr into handmade interior accessories and looks forward to growing this arm of the business. Emily comes armed with experience from years spent in project management and marketing, bringing right-brain creative thinking, left-brain execution, and resourcefulness to the table. Creative Direction + Project Management From dreaming up or honing in on the overall vision, communicating with vendors, to keeping everyone on track throughout the set timeframe. 04. Sourcing It's an important part of our job to find the best items and services to achieve the overall vision. At the core of who we are is a belief that curated moments and small details matter. That character and charm are rooted in those small, and often imperfect, details and that they often make the biggest impact. We value the importance of an intentional yet dynamic design process, honoring and allowing for the inevitable twists & turns that come with it. We believe in bespoke designs that come together layer by layer. And we are passionate about empowering others to create meaningful, comfortable, character-filled homes…with our guidance. You: invest in a 10 or 20 hour retainer block. We: typically spend the initial hours creating a design concept & plan. The remaining hours are used for 1x per month consultations (done virtually or in person), sending recommendations, answering questions, crafting mockups, even coordinating with trades or other design professionals if applicable. There is flexibility in your investment. The hours are yours to use as you wish and can be spent (for example) space planning, in-person or online shopping, making paint/fabric/wallpaper selections, vetting out carpentry or millwork projects, decor styling, sharing inspiration or simply bouncing ideas off of us! Following approval of the concepts, draft a bespoke design plan with layouts, applicable mockups & renderings, and shoppable links for purchases. 2 revisions are included.
