this is a very exciting post about a very exciting project! lindsay, who has worked with me for years and whose wedding we designed in 2017, and her husband mat recently purchased a fixer upper and by fixer upper, i mean they have gutted the ENTIRE house. and are redoing the landscaping as well. and they have asked mStarr to work on the design, hooray!
from my first visit / you can see the old shutters and siding, and mossy roof.
new siding, windows and roof! kept the stone entrance and most of the original door because duh.
as you can see above, the house has a distinct cottage feel. lindsay and mat love the charm and rustic elements but really prefer a more contemporary aesthetic. and so…the #mstarrcontemporarycottage was born. there will be one primary floor for living but there is a great unfinished basement that they will eventually tackle.
we’re currently deciding on general paint colors and possible wallpaper for the various rooms. perhaps not surprisingly, we intend to use many of the same elements and colors from their wedding in the design. a color palette of warm neutrals with pops of dusty blues, black, and gold. they love grey but it’s important to keep some warmth in the space so we’re going with more greiges vs. blue greys.

we’re heading into an inspection period for the core components of the home and the most pressing decisions to be made are in the two bathrooms. the master is going to have everything we all dream about (or at least what i dream about)…a tiled shower, double vanity, a freestanding soaking tub, and so. much. more.
we’ve been pulling inspiration from the below images. the angles in the bathrooms make for some slight challenges but nothing that can’t be worked around.
and below is the current mood board for the master bath! there are still some things up in the air but i think you can get the idea. SO good right?
