You know how I feel about throw pillows (and that I have a very large/unhealthy stash of them on hand at all times). What you may not know is my rug stash rivals it. While I firmly believe that quality and attractive furniture is important, it’s the details that pull a room together and rugs are at the top of that list. So much so that I sometimes design a space around a singular rug. Especially if it’s a vintage one! Vintage rugs tell such stories...their imperfections are what makes them perfect, and having something that only YOU have is special.
While you’ve seen me swap out rugs in various rooms recently, I stuck with the same rug in the living room for 2 years! 2 whole years! Unheard of for me truly but I did (and still do) love it. It was time, though, for a change and I wanted it to be a meaningful one. Enter Revival. Maybe you’ve seen them in your Instagram feed? They offer vintage, one-of-a-kind rugs that are, wait for it...affordable! They’ve nurtured relationships with artisans and partners in Turkey in order to get YOU beautiful vintage pieces without the markup, while paying their makers fair wages (I should also note they do have some new rugs, most of which are also one-of-a-kind). I also have to note that I’m obsessed with their shipping/packaging. Everything comes folded and professionally-cleaned in kraft boxes rather than the usual plastic packaging around a rolled rug that takes many cuts and too much time to get off.
And oh their rugs! They’re SO beautiful and it was SO hard to choose which direction to go in for the living room. Ultimately I decided on something that’s darker than what we had before to ground the space and just to do something different in here. Meet…Elegido! Isn’t she a beauty?! An overdyed style, she was handwoven and handknotted in Demirci, Turkey and features various gray tones. As with our kitchen tile, the rug can actually look more blue than gray depending on the lighting/angle and I just LOVE that. I’m still playing around with final artwork and pillows but am so happy with it. The room has a different vibe now (a bit more sophisticated perhaps?) but is still cozy, something I really didn’t want to lose given the previous rug was a shag style.
